Armindo Sieb's Transfer from Bayern Munich to LAFC

Bayern Munich has officially announced the permanent departure of Armindo Sieb. The 23-year-old attacker is heading to MLS side Los Angeles FC, following two loan spells with Mainz 05. Valued at €2.5 million by Transfermarkt, Sieb's sale for €500,000 marks the end of a six-year tenure with Bayern. Throughout his time at the club, the player was consistently developed elsewhere rather than being given a consistent first-team opportunity in Munich.

Sieb joined Bayern as a 17-year-old in 2020, having previously played in the youth systems of RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim. He only managed one senior competitive appearance for the German giants, which was in the DFB-Pokal, before embarking on several loan moves aimed at securing more regular playing time.

Greuther Fürth's Role in Sieb's Development

Sieb's development significantly accelerated during his time at Greuther Fürth. Bayern permitted the forward to join the 2. Bundesliga club in 2022. His impressive performances during the 2023/24 campaign led Bayern to activate a buyback clause. Sieb netted 12 goals in 33 league appearances that season, also gaining recognition at the international youth level.

Even before his return to Bayern, Sieb's promising form had attracted attention, establishing him as one of the more exciting young German attackers in the second division. Bayern exercised their option in 2024, offering Sieb a contract until 2027, but immediately loaned him out for an extended two-year period to Mainz.

Mainz Spell: Flashes of Brilliance, No Breakthrough

Sieb's two seasons at Mainz proved to be somewhat inconsistent. In his first year, he scored two Bundesliga goals and provided three assists despite starting only six league matches. He demonstrated his potential in a strong performance against his parent club Bayern in December 2024, where he provided both assists in Mainz's 2-1 victory, showcasing his direct running and physical attributes.

His second loan season initially seemed promising. He scored in Mainz's 4-1 win at Augsburg, with coach Bo Henriksen praising his "outstanding" performance. However, this momentum didn't fully last, and Sieb found himself lower in the attacking pecking order, especially after Urs Fischer took charge. An opportunity arose in the spring due to an injury to Silas, and Fischer backed Sieb to step up, noting his acceleration and ability to attack defenders directly as a stylistic replacement.

Sieb contributed in the Europa Conference League, scoring in a 2-0 win over Sigma Olomouc and threatening as a substitute against Racing Strasbourg. Despite these flashes of potential, he did not secure a permanent place at Mainz. Across his two-year loan, Sieb played 62 competitive matches and scored five goals.

LAFC Offers Sieb a New Development Opportunity

Sieb returned to Bayern for preseason this summer and trained with the first team, but a clear path into Vincent Kompany's squad was not apparent. Los Angeles now presents his next chapter. The MLS club shares a close working relationship with Bayern through the "Red&Gold Football" partnership and previously signed former Bayern academy player Timothy Tillman.

Sieb also knows Tillman personally, having briefly played together at Fürth before Tillman's move to LAFC. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, believes the move to California can finally provide Sieb with the environment needed to progress. Freund stated, "We are very happy that, after Timothy Tillman, he is now the second player to make the move from our campus to our ‘Red&Gold’ partner club Los Angeles FC. We know that he is in very good hands there and will take the next step."

After four consecutive seasons away from Munich on loan or permanent assignment, Sieb's time at Bayern has officially concluded. He scored four top-flight German league goals in 49 appearances and 16 goals in 63 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga.
