Borussia Dortmund Confirms Goalkeeper Diant Ramaj Returns to Copenhagen on Loan

Borussia Dortmund has officially announced that goalkeeper Diant Ramaj will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at FC Copenhagen. This marks the 24-year-old's return to Denmark, following discussions between the clubs last week about a potential reunion. Reports suggest that the loan agreement includes a purchase option, allowing Copenhagen to sign Ramaj permanently next summer for a fee of €5 million.

This move could effectively conclude Ramaj's tenure at Borussia Dortmund without him having played a single competitive match for the club. Ramaj previously impressed during a loan spell with Copenhagen in the spring of 2025. Last season, he was a regular starter for Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, appearing in 31 of their 34 league games. Having established himself as a Bundesliga regular, Ramaj is unlikely to want to return to a reserve role.

Borussia Dortmund acquired Ramaj from Ajax Amsterdam in February 2025 for €5 million, signing him until 2029. He was initially seen as a potential long-term successor to Gregor Kobel. However, Dortmund immediately loaned him back to Copenhagen for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign. Gregor Kobel remains the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for Dortmund, with Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes, and Silas Ostrzinski currently completing the team's goalkeeping roster.

During his initial loan spell at Copenhagen, Ramaj made 19 appearances, conceding only 14 goals and keeping ten clean sheets. He played a key role in helping the Danish club secure a domestic league and cup double. Copenhagen's sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, expressed his pleasure at Ramaj's return, praising his ambition, mentality, and growing experience. Head coach Bo Svensson highlighted Ramaj's comfort with the ball at his feet and his ability to contribute to the team's build-up play.

Ramaj himself described the move as "absolutely right," admitting he missed both the club and the atmosphere at Parken Stadium.
