Kjell Wätjen Set for Midtjylland Transfer from Borussia Dortmund
Kjell Wätjen is on the brink of departing Borussia Dortmund this summer, following the exits of Cole Campbell and Julien Duranville. Reports from Ruhr Nachrichten indicate that the 20-year-old midfielder is nearing a transfer to Danish side Midtjylland.
This potential move would see Wätjen reunite with Mike Tullberg, his former head coach at BVB's U19 team, whom he worked with for 44 matches across various competitions.
While Wätjen's departure appears imminent, Ruhr Nachrichten notes that a final agreement is still pending. However, a deal valued at approximately €4 million is anticipated shortly. Although there is no set timeframe for the player's exit, Borussia Dortmund seems keen on completing their transfer business early, before players return from their summer break on July 14.
For Wätjen, this transfer marks the end of his long association with the club he joined as a youth player in 2015. Having made only four senior appearances for Dortmund, the midfielder spent the 2025/26 season on loan at 2. Bundesliga club Bochum, where he contributed to three goals in 29 appearances.
