Mainz 05 Hopes to Secure Stefan Posch Permanently
Mainz 05 is actively pursuing the permanent acquisition of Austrian defender Stefan Posch, as confirmed by sporting director Stefan Bungert in an interview with the Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung. The 28-year-old has made a significant impact since rejoining the Bundesliga, and all parties involved desire for him to remain in German football.
Stefan Posch's Current Situation
After experiencing fluctuating form and market valuations across clubs in Italy's Serie A, the 51-time Austrian international is seeking stability. Since his return to the Bundesliga in January on a complex loan agreement, Posch has established himself as a key player in the central defense of Mainz's three-man backline under head coach Urs Fischer.
Although Posch has yet to score in the Bundesliga, he has played a crucial role in Mainz's successful run in the Conference League, including scoring impressive goals in their recent victories in the competition. He has played the maximum possible minutes in all 13 of his appearances across all competitions so far.
While a permanent transfer would benefit both Posch and Mainz, the willingness of his parent club, Como 1907, to part with him remains uncertain. Posch's current valuation on Transfermarkt (€5.5m) is considered by many to not reflect his true worth.
Mainz Sporting Director Acknowledges Hurdles
Bungert stated to the local newspaper, "We absolutely want to keep a player who embodies everything that defines Mainz 05. We are actively working on it and want to keep him for longer, but there are issues with the parent club."
