Salim Musah Making His Mark for Werder Bremen's Attack
Werder Bremen striker Salim Musah is actively demonstrating his readiness for a starting position ahead of the new Bundesliga season. The 20-year-old player contributed a goal and an assist in Werder's recent friendly victory over Energie Cottbus, which concluded with a 4-2 scoreline. Musah initiated the scoring and later set up Samuel Mbangula for Bremen's second goal with a precise through ball.
This notable performance follows his earlier goal in the 2-0 win against Bochum. Throughout the preseason, Musah has showcased considerable energy and a strong presence in the central attacking role. He has also dedicated time to extra individual training during the summer break.
"Salim has made his presence felt on multiple occasions," commented Werder's head coach, Daniel Thioune, following the match against Cottbus.
Musah had already generated significant excitement after scoring his inaugural Bundesliga goal against RB Leipzig in April. He subsequently earned a place in the starting eleven for the final two league matches of the season.
Earlier in the season's relegation battle, he was also considered for his first Bundesliga start against Köln as Thioune sought a reliable, natural center-forward.
Salim Musah: Gaining an Edge in the Race for a Starting Spot?
Musah's impressive preseason form appears to give him an initial advantage over new signing Cedric Itten. The Swiss international received an extended break following his World Cup commitments and will only join full team training on Tuesday.
Werder may also introduce further competition before the transfer window concludes. Lechia Gdańsk forward Tomas Bobček has reportedly attracted interest after scoring 20 goals in Poland last season.
However, the recently relegated Polish club is demanding a transfer fee in the mid-to-high single-digit million range. Werder might need to generate funds through player sales before making a formal offer, though a loan arrangement remains a possibility.
For the moment, Musah has positioned himself at the forefront of an increasingly competitive field for the role of leading Bremen's attack.
