Schalke 04 has demonstrated an extraordinary level of fan engagement, evidenced by the rapid sell-out of their newly unveiled retro away jersey. The club released the special edition shirt on August 6th, and within a mere two and a half hours, all 40,000 available units were reportedly gone. This remarkable achievement has led the club's CEO, Matthias Tillmann, to describe Schalke as one of the "craziest clubs in Europe."

Tillmann expressed his astonishment, noting the unprecedented nature of such rapid sales. "I don't know how many clubs have ever done or achieved that," he remarked to Sky Germany. "You can't plan something like that, it's just crazy." The retro jersey features the club's historic crest, a design element that resonated strongly with the fanbase.

Looking ahead, Tillmann is optimistic about sustained sales throughout the season. "If we manage to achieve sales throughout the entire season as planned, then we will sell more jerseys this season than in any single year of the last ten years," he stated.

The success of the Adidas-manufactured jersey caught many by surprise, including those within the sportswear giant. Tillmann shared an anecdote from an Adidas employee who remarked, "You're the boss of one of the craziest clubs in Europe."

Schalke's 2026/27 season kicks off with a DFB Pokal match against Hallescher on August 24th. They will then commence their Bundesliga campaign against Augsburg a week later, marking their return to Germany's top flight after a three-year absence.
